New England Marine was established in 2010 by John Lees, who in 1986 founded Mar-Lees Seafood, which grew to become the premier scallop distributor in the US, specializing in building fresh, frozen, and value-added seafood brands.

Because we know the fishing grounds off New England better than anyone and have built strategic relationships with buyers seeking top value, New England Marine can harvest and deliver a product that is tailored to our individual customers’ needs — whether fresh or frozen in all sizes from domestically harvested areas. U-10, U-12, 10-20, 20-30. And because of our decades of experience in the industry, we are able to identify excess capacity in the processing system to help keep our clients’ costs down. 

Our team meets each of our fishing boats when they return to the historic Port of New Bedford, the nation’s leading commercial fishing port, to ensure a customized catch gets to our clients while it is at its freshest and most delicious.

New England Marine’s five scallopers are berthed in New Bedford, MA, the world’s leading commercial fishing port , and are the best-maintained in the industry. That means our scallops get to your plate while they are at their very freshest and most delicious.
